Hospital Adventure

This is one of our latest adventures. Cohen got pneumonia and had ... we will call it exacerbated asthma because that is what the doctor called it. Mind you, we don't know if he really has asthma and won't know until he is about 8. He also had 2 ear infections, a fever, and hadn't eaten very much the day before. We went to the doctor and while there he cried and his lips turned blue, so to the hospital he went. He stayed for 5 days and Ian and I stayed with him the first 2 days and nights and then I stayed with him so Ian could get back to studying for the rest of the time. His oxygen was pretty low that first night, but he was very brave with everything, especially the IV's, he had to get 4 of them. Slowly they weaned him off of steroids, antibiotics, and oxygen. We did have to give him breathing treatments for a week, steroids for a few days and antibiotics for another week after he got home, but he is a healthy, happy, and very energetic boy now.


Yes, that is blood all over him. A piece of the IV came off and so he bled out. They fixed it without having to move the site that time.


The first day he was on an all liquid diet, so he wouldn't aspirate, and so he was glad to get some real food the next day.

Little Robbie made him a great card to help cheer him up. Plus, he is now addicted to tv because he couldn't get out of bed. He did like the bed after the first night. As you can see he had lots of room. Everyone kept feeding him cookies, so he has woken up a couple of times in the middle of the night asking for cookies since he came home.

The last day he was there he had to get the 4th iv and screamed for help so loud that the 92 year old woman with dementia next door was scared half to death and had to be calmed down.
Cohen was such a trooper even when he got home and still had to do the treatments every 3 hours.
